Boat Rental and Operator Agreement

1. Who may operate. Only the people named here, each of whom is at least minimum age and holds any boating licence or safety certificate the law requires: operators. Nobody else takes the helm, for any reason, at any time.
2. The briefing. I have had the check-out briefing, I know where the life jackets, the fire extinguisher, the throwable and the kill switch are, and I know how to start, stop, anchor and call for help. I will wear the kill-switch lanyard whenever the engine is running.
3. Life jackets. There is a fitting life jacket aboard for every person, children wear theirs at all times as the law requires, and I will not leave the dock without them.
4. Where and when. The vessel stays inside operating area and comes back by the return time. No night operation unless this agreement says so. No towing of people or objects unless this agreement says so, and never without an observer aboard.
5. Alcohol and drugs. The operator does not drink or take anything that affects judgement while in charge of the vessel. Operating a vessel impaired is an offence everywhere this vessel can go.
6. Weather and the harbourmaster. I will check the forecast before leaving, come in when told to, and follow small-craft advisories and any instruction from business name or the authorities.
7. Condition and damage. I have looked the vessel over with staff and its condition is recorded here: condition notes. I return it in that condition, fuelled as agreed, clean, with its equipment aboard. I am responsible for damage, loss or theft during the rental up to damage limit, and for grounding, propeller damage and salvage or towing costs, unless caused by a defect present at handover. The deposit of deposit is held against this.
8. Trouble. If the vessel breaks down, runs aground or takes on water I will call business name on emergency phone before arranging anything, and I will not accept a commercial tow without speaking to them first.
By signing I confirm that I have read this, understood it, and meant to sign it.
